ON THIS DAY: Pavel Datsyuk pots his 300th career goal vs. Bruins

It probably goes without saying that Pavel Datsyuk is a once-in-a-generation player. No, he never put up Ovechkin or Stamkos-like goal numbers; but his hands were almost second to none, and his 2-way play made him one of the hardest players to oppose in the NHL.

The Detroit Red Wings are well into their 2nd season of the Datsyuk-less era, and at this point they probably wish those hands were still making filthy moves on the ice for them.

Two years ago today, Datsyuk reached an impressive career milestone. In a game at home against the Boston Bruins, he deked out the Bruins’ defense and netted his 300th career goal. In doing so, he joined the likes of Red Wings legends such as Gordie Howe, Steve Yzerman, Alex Delvecchio, Sergei Fedorov and currently Henrik Zetterberg with at least 300 goals, 500+ assists and 800+ points.

We miss you, Datsyuk, and wishing you all the best!

WHOA! Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill puts Anthony Mantha on blast!

The Detroit Red Wings dropped a disappointing pre-Thanksgiving matchup against the struggling Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night, losing by a 6-2 final score at Little Caesars Arena.

Following the game, head coach Jeff Blashill put his players on notice.

“I thought we had some guys in the last couple games that are important pieces to us that are passengers,” Blashill said afterwards. “They can’t be passengers. With minutes comes responsibility, and so you have to make sure you are getting the job done.”

While it didn’t sound like he was calling out anyone in particular, he soon did just that, zeroing in on Anthony Mantha.
