Although Michigan State had an early exit in this year’s NCAA Tournament, a couple of Spartans are being projected to go in the top-20 of June’s NBA Draft.
According to the most recent mock draft from ESPN NBA-analyst Chad Ford, freshman forward Deyonta Davis is projected to go 12th to the Boston Celtics. Meanwhile, Ford has senior guard and ‘Player of the Year’ candidate Denzel Valentine going to the Utah Jazz at pick 16.
Davis has yet to officially declare for the NBA Draft and has until April 24th to declare, although he could still withdraw and return to Michigan State up until May 25th if he does not hire an agent.
The 6-foot-10 forward out of Muskegon, MI averaged 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and lead the Spartans in blocks with 64 on the season. Although Davis is a raw prospect, his shot-blocking ability and his improving mid-range game make him a highly regarded player in the draft.
Meanwhile, Valentine could be a mid-1st round pick after an outstanding senior season where he led MSU in points and assists per game. The Sexton-native also recorded 2 triple-doubles this season.
The 2016 NBA Draft is on June 23rd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
