When Chicago Bears linebacker Noah Sewell found out his new head coach would be former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, he naturally turned to his brother, Lions star right tackle Penei Sewell, for some insight.
The problem? Penei wasn’t talking.
“Penei didn’t really give me anything,” Noah admitted to reporters. “He was a little salty that his coach was coming over here.”

Johnson left Detroit this offseason to take the Bears’ head coaching job after helping guide the Lions to one of the NFL’s most productive offenses over the past two years. While Noah was hoping for a bit of inside knowledge from his big brother, it sounds like family loyalty to the Lions, and perhaps some lingering disappointment about losing Johnson, kept Penei’s lips sealed.
Whether Penei’s silence was playful or protective, one thing is certain: the Sewell brothers’ first matchup this season should have a little extra spice.
