Round 3 – Jeremy Langford (RB) – Michigan State
As soon as the Lions released Reggie Bush, I immediately looked at the move as a way to free up some money to re-sign Suh. Obviously the plan backfired, and now the Lions are in need of a compliment to Joique Bell in the backfield.
The team could elect to go in one of two directions. They could just roll with Theo Riddick, who has great potential and is expected to have an expanded role moving forward, or they could select a running back in the draft.
As much as I love Riddick, if Jeremy Langford is available when the Lions select in the third round they have to grab him. Langford is not likely to be an every down running back in the league because he is not a physical runner, but he could make a perfect third down back for the Lions and another weapon for Stafford. Langford can catch the ball and has good speed, something the team lost when Bush was released. Langford is not a between-the-tackles kind of runner, which makes him a good third down option.
Perfect selection if Langford is off the board: Ameer Abdullah (RB) – Nebraska. *If both are gone, a cornerback would be the pick here.
