As if it was not already going to be difficult for the Detroit Lions in 2021.
According to Peter King, the Lions, along with every other team in the NFC, is “likely” to play an extra road game in 2021 if the 17-game schedule proposal is approved (it almost certainly will be).
In his latest Football Morning in America column, King said he is hearing that the AFC will host all 16 “newly invented games in 2021.
From Pro Football Talk:
Hearing it’s most likely to be AFC hosting all 16 newly invented games in 2021. Then NFC teams hosting in 2023. If that’s how it goes, it’s the fairest way. Competitive equity is the key. You don’t want three NFC East teams playing eight at home and the fourth playing nine at home.
King said in his column that the 17-game schedule is “highly likely” in 2021 and that schedule-makers and TV partners are operating as if that is exactly what will happen.
Nation, how do you feel about a 17-game regular-season schedule?
