Football is really blooming here in the state of Michigan. Aside from the typical performances from Michigan and Michigan State, the directional schools in the state are doing stellar as well. Western Michigan and Central Michigan have been particularly impressive; beating the likes of Oklahoma State, Illinois, and Northwestern between the two schools.
Their success has brought attention to the matchup between these two schools on October 1st. One student from Central Michigan has posted an online petition to bring ESPN’s College Gameday to Mount Pleasant for the game.
The petition reads:
“Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University are facing off in a game at Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, MI on Saturday, October 1st. This game is shaping up to be one of the most exciting MAC football games in recent history. But a visit from ESPN’s College GameDay would make it all the more reason to get even more excited. These two teams may be in a mid-major conference, but both have earned their keep this season and are worthy of playing in front of the entire nation.
The teams are off to incredible starts and are both currently undefeated; CMU got a nearly impossible win and pulled off what might just be the best play of the year against the 22nd ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys in Week 2. WMU has beaten two Big Ten teams in Northwestern and Illinois (in fact, they crushed Illinois 34-10). There is so much excitement surrounding this game that it’s almost indescribable.
At the time this petition was written:
Both school’s QB’s are ranked by ESPN as being in the top 30 in the nation, with WMU’s Zach Terrell at #16 and CMU’s Cooper Rush at #26.
Cooper Rush has claimed 2/3 MAC Offensive Player of the Week awards this season
CMU’s defense is ranked 16th in the nation
WMU’s offense is ranked 17th in the nation
Both teams have been receiving more and more AP votes as the weeks go on”
The game would have to contend with Wisconsin @ Michigan and Louisville @ Clemson if it wants the premier pre-game show to come to Mount Pleasant. We at DSN sure hope that Gameday would at least consider going to a smaller conference game with an incredible in-state rivalry. Regardless of the result, Row the Boat and Fire Up Chips!

UPDATE: We learned that there are multiple petitions going around, both with the intentions of being sent to some very high-profile authorities that may have a final say in determining whether or not GameDay will head to Mount Pleasant.
Here is one from Aaron Smith, courtesy of fellow DSN writer Shae Brophy:
Both Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University have gotten off to great starts in the 2016 College Football season. Due to their combined success, ESPN’s College GameDay should broadcast their program ‘Live’ from Mt. Pleasant, MI. It’s about time that the MAC gets some national recognition. Let’s see if we can make this happen. #FireUpChips #RowTheBoat
