Petr Mrazek‘s back is going to be sore tomorrow after carrying the Detroit Red Wings to a victory Saturday night against the Nashville Predators. Mrazek stopped all 42 Nashville shots, recording his first shutout this season and his first since February 8th of last year.
The win also improved Mrazek’s career record against Nashville to a perfect 5-0.

The Red Wings are certainly lucky to come out of Saturday’s game with a win, as they were outshot 42-19 and failed to convert on five power play chances. Nashville simply had no answers for Mrazek, who was sharp all night long.
Mrazek, who has had an up-and-down year, should be encouraged by his recent performances. Jeff Blashill showed confidence in Mrazek by starting him in back-to-back games, both of which were victories. Even though he allowed four goals against the Islanders, he still played a strong game and made some key saves for the Red Wings. Mrazek has shown that he can play at an elite level when he’s on his game, and the Red Wings will be dangerous if he can continue his dominance from Saturday night.
While Mrazek’s recent play is promising, the team around him must improve if the Red Wings are to have a chance at making the playoffs. Allowing 42 shots and failing to capitalize on five power plays is unacceptable. That being said, the hope is the team build off of these two wins and get a streak going.
