Jahmyr Gibbs is back on the field with the Detroit Lions.
Photos and video from Thursday morning’s training camp practice showed Gibbs in uniform and wearing pads as he worked alongside his teammates in Allen Park. Brad Galli reported that Gibbs was practicing, while Colton Pouncy shared video of the running back taking part in on-field work.
Another photo, captured by Dan Mears of The Detroit News, showed Gibbs speaking directly with head coach Dan Campbell during the session.
The images provide the clearest evidence yet that Gibbs has taken a meaningful step toward resuming normal football activity after sitting out the opening week of camp.
Gibbs’ Practice Return Comes Amid Contract Talks
Gibbs remained inside the Lions’ facility throughout his absence, attending meetings and staying connected to the team. Until Thursday, though, he had not been seen participating in full uniform with the offense.
That changed when No. 0 returned to the practice field.
The development arrives as Detroit and Gibbs continue discussing a possible contract extension. Jonathan Jones reported Thursday morning that sources are optimistic a deal could be completed this week.
No extension has been announced, and Gibbs’ return to practice does not confirm that an agreement has been reached.
For now, the football development stands on its own.
A Significant Step for Detroit’s Offense
Detroit plans to make Gibbs the centerpiece of its backfield this season. Campbell has called him the Lions’ bell cow, placing even greater importance on getting him comfortable within Drew Petzing’s offense.
Walkthrough work was encouraging. Seeing Gibbs in pads, running with teammates and communicating with Campbell is more significant.
The Lions still must manage his workload after the missed practices, but Detroit’s most explosive offensive weapon is no longer simply watching from the sideline.
