Pistons waive Peyton Siva and Josh Harrellson

The Detroit Pistons announced on Tuesday morning that they have waived G Peyton Siva and C Josh Harrellson to make room for their recent signings. Siva averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 assists in 24 games he played in and Harrellson averaged 2.9 points and 2.4 boards and shot 38.7% from deep in 32 games before going down with a meniscus tear in his left knee.

Siva being waived doesn’t come as a surprise at all. Siva’s contract was non-guaranteed and it was going to become a guaranteed contract on July 20. The Pistons had five point guards after the Sunday signing of D.J. Augustin and Siva was the easiest choice to release. I liked Siva’s game and I liked his heart, but he probably isn’t really cut out for the NBA game anyway. There were times where he really looked overmatched out there, even against backups.

Harrellson’s injury pretty much sealed his fate. His injury messed him up and the Aaron Gray signing put more doubt into Harrellson coming back. Harrellson is more of a finesse big man who can step out and hit a 3, but he wasn’t really a guy who was going to bang down low and grab rebounds. Gray will do that, because well that’s all Gray is really good for.

Siva and Harrellson weren’t going to be big parts of what the Pistons were going to do this season. Tough to see Siva go, but the NBA is a business and it’s all about making the team better.

  1. My goodness, if I had a dollar for the amount of “who?” comments I’ve see on Pistons posts the last couple of days. Do you guys not follow basketball? C’mon man.

  2. Hate to see Siva go. Would have rather had it been Bynum, but maybe they still have trade plans for him. Love the Augustin signing tho!

  3. I don’t understand the love of Siva. He was not NBA ready and it was clear. We picked up actual NBA guards this off season that will better help this team.

  4. I liked Ian Miller better from summer league, they need to sign him up and trade Bynum for a draft pick. Keep Miller in Grand Rapids with the D-League team. Also get rid of Datome and Martin while your at it. Play Mitchell at SF or just release him.

  5. And sign Justin Harper and DeAndre Liggins, better fits for this team than Mitchell and Datome.

  6. Siva wasn’t nba ready at all! So I’m not surprised! Eric Draven i agree with everything u said bruh!

  7. I like the signing lately, but with the improvements that the Cavs, Bulls and Bucks have made recently, we need a household name if Van Gundy doesn’t want to finish in dead last in the central.

  8. Seriously, it’s like everyone just tunes out of reality because we’re not very good….

  9. Don’t worry guys next year we will trade for Kobe just like we did for iverson and then we will be the best!!!!!

  10. Don’t see Will Bynum & Brandon Jennings on this roster Coming up, There’s a reason why, coach Stan Van Gundy sign all those point guard.
