The Detroit Pistons dropped their sixth game in their past seven in blowout fashion on Saturday night to the San Antonio Spurs.
The home team used a 42 point third quarter to power their way past Detroit by a 136-109 final score. It was also the second time in the past 12 days they’ve allowed over 130 points; their 133-119 setback against Washington was the most points they’d given up in regulation since 1995 – until that unfortunate record was broken last night.
However, once again the focus was on the struggles of forward Blake Griffin.
The All-Star forward who powered the Pistons to a playoff spot last season with arguably the best season of his career has been hampered by a nagging knee injury this year that’s forced him out of several games, including the first 10 of the year. When he’s been in the lineup, he hasn’t been the same player that fans have come to know, averaging only 15.5 PPG.
Against San Antonio, he was 3-for-16 – all three-point shots.
Head coach Dwane Casey, however, declined to comment on the things that he talks about with Griffin amidst his struggles.

“We all know what Blake is,” Casey explained. “He’s an All-Pro player, and he’s a great player in his own mind. He’s not 100%, so you talk to him about that – but I’m not going to get into what goes on behind closed doors.”
The loss against San Antonio was the first in a long six-game road swing for Detroit. Their next matchup will be Monday night against the Utah Jazz.
