Pistons make history with a big win on the road, defeat the Cavaliers 127-94

The Detroit Pistons (8-13) continued where they left off this past weekend with another huge victory, this time against the Cleveland Cavaliers (5-15)  as they were able to pull off a huge win on the road 127-94. Tonight marked the first time in History the Pistons were able to defeat a team by 30+ points for two consecutive games. The Pistons remained determined tonight, and by the middle of the third quarter, this game was well out of reach for Cavaliers.

In the first quarter, the Pistons went on a 21-4 run to open up the game with a 24-13 lead. Cavaliers guard Jordan Clarkson stopped the run with a pair of three-point shots to cut the Pistons lead to just five. A pair of shots from Cavaliers second-year guard Collin Sexton was a part of a 10-0 run by the Cavaliers, and a layup from Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson allowed the Cavaliers to take a 25-24 lead. The Cavaliers scored 12 points on five possessions during their run. Pistons came back and went on a 7-0 run to end the first quarter. A Blake Griffin three-point shot as the shot clock expired gave the Pistons a 32-28 lead to end the first.

Pistons guard Derrick Rose opened up the second quarter with a pair of made shots to give the Pistons a 36-28 lead. A Langston Galloway three-point shot gave the Pistons a 12 point lead. His shot was also a part of an 18-2 run by the Pistons to give them a 42-30 lead. The Pistons would end up going on a 31-10 run after another basket from Derrick Rose. The Pistons opened the second quarter making 10-of-12 shots from the floor. A Blake Griffin three-point shot gave the Pistons a 62-44 lead to end the first half.

Pistons All-Star forward Blake Griffin finished the first half with 19 points for the Pistons and made 5-of-6 from the three-point line. Langston Galloway scored 11 points off the bench and made 3-of-5 from the three-point line. Pistons forward Markieff Morris left the game briefly in the second quarter with what appeared to be a neck injury but was able to return later on in the game. Pistons center Andre Drummond finished the first half with eight points to go along with eight rebounds, four steals and four blocks in the first half of play. Collin Sexton led the Cavaliers with 10 first-half points.

The Pistons continued where they left off in the first half, going up 80-52 with seven minutes left to play in the third quarter. After a slam by Drummond, the Pistons were up 93-66 with 1:55 left in the third quarter. A three-point shot from Rose gave the Pistons a 97-68 lead to end the third quarter. The Cavaliers couldn’t get it going in the third quarter, missing all five shots from the three-point line.

In the fourth quarter, both teams cleared out their bench with the game out of reach. Andre Drummond was the only Piston to play over 30 minutes in tonight’s lopsided victory. Andre Drummond finished tonight’s game with 17 points while grabbing 14 rebounds, dishing out four assists, while adding four steals and five blocks. Blake Griffin led all scorers with 24 points. Derrick Rose finished with 12 points and nine assists.

For Cleveland, Collin Sexton led the charge with 22 points. Cavaliers rookie guard Kevin Porter Jr. Finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Pistons won’t have much time to celebrate tonight’s win, as they face the conference-leading Milwaukee Bucks (18-3) at home tomorrow at 7 PM. The Bucks have won 12 straight games, including a 104-90 victory over the Pistons this season. The Bucks have beaten the Pistons five straight times, including sweeping the Pistons 4-0 in the post-season earlier this year. If the Pistons can carry this momentum into tomorrow’s game, the Pistons have a chance at defeating a red hot Bucks team that will be on the road.
