Nothing went smoothly for the Detroit Pistons at the Smoothie King Center on Wednesday night.
In addition to getting blown out by the New Orleans Pelicans after losing Andre Drummond to ejection, the team made history – and not the kind you want to be remembered for. The Pistons finished just 17.6% from the free throw line, making a horrifying 3 of 17 attempts.
They now hold the NBA record for the worst single-game free throw percentage with a minimum of 10 attempts, according to ESPN.

“It’s pretty hard to play like that and on top of that, it’s incredibly disheartening when you make a good offensive play and you get fouled and it amounts to zero,” head coach Stan Van Gundy lamented after the game.
The final score was 109-86 resulting in Detroit’s ninth straight defeat in New Orleans.
Before his ejection for a Flagrant-2 foul, Drummond made just one of 10 free-throw attempts. He was tossed from the game after shoving New Orleans guard Tim Frazier.
To add insult to injury, the Pistons also shot 13% (3 of 23) from beyond the three-point line. They are now three games below the .500 mark with a 29-32 record.
