Pistons travel to Minnesota looking to bounce back

What: Detroit Pistons vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
Where: Target Center Minneapolis, MN
Time: 8:00

The Detroit Pistons will look to move on from a tough loss last night in Denver by heading to Minnesota to take on the young Timberwolves. Greg Monroe will finish up his suspension in this game and will be available in the home opener against the Brooklyn Nets. Let’s look at the keys to bouncing back and getting a win tonight in Minnesota.

1.) Stopping big man Nikola Pekovic is key to defeating the Timberwolves. Pekovic is a load down low and he has a history of burning the Pistons. This could be another lesson for young big Andre Drummond who had a problem defending Kenneth Faried last night in Denver. Faried is good, but Pekovic is physical and he can straight outmuscle you. It’ll take a team effort with Drummond, Josh Smith, and backup big Joel Anthony in stopping him.

2.) The 3-point shooting needs to improve. A 6/26 night from deep isn’t going to get it done. Caron Butler went 0/3 from deep, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope went a pathetic 1/8 from deep as part of a 3/19 night overall, and D.J. Augustin went 2/6. Kyle Singler was their most effective shooter from deep going 2/4. You want to give Drummond some space? You want driving lanes to the hoop? Then you have to space the floor. Knock down your open shots.

3.) Brandon Jennings, art thou alive? Jennings looked lethargic and uninterested in last night’s loss to the Nuggets. Augustin completely outplayed him and that can’t happen. Jennings is the more talented player and he needs to wake up and get his mind right for this team to succeed. Detroit needs Jennings out on the floor running the offense and making electrifying plays like we all know he can. Now he is battling a little Achilles injury, but it’s not too serious. Pistons need Jennings to play up to a high standard.
