Daniel Norris is the centerpiece in the return package the Detroit Tigers received for trading starting pitcher David Price prior to Major League Baseball’s trade deadline. He was regarded as the top overall prospect in the Blue Jays organization before the blockbuster trade. According to scouts, the 22-year old southpaw and the man they call “Van Man” has been compared to crafty big league lefties like C.J. Wilson and Gio Gonzalez, he won’t blow people away, but has a solid repertoire to be a successful starting pitcher.

Norris’ Future

Norris will be making an immediate impact for the Tigers following the trade. He is slated to make his Tigers debut on Sunday, August 2nd against the Baltimore Orioles. With the rotation even more depleted now that Price has moved on, Norris will have the remainder of the season to showcase his talents to the Tigers players, coaches, and management, and will no doubt have a legitimate chance to make the 25-man roster next season as a member of the rotation. He is expected to be a part of the Tigers rotation for years to come. He is not scheduled to be a free agent until the 2021 season.
