Justin Verlander was drafted out of Old Dominion University in 2004 and it didn’t take him long for him to get to the majors. Verlander showed his dominance early in 2006 winning Rookie of the Year with 17 wins . Verlander would continue to build his pitching ability up through the years where finally he went off in 2011, going 24-5 with a 2.40 ERA and 250 strikeouts leading all three categories for the pitching Triple Crown and it was also good enough for not only the American League Cy Young, but also the AL MVP. After his huge season, Verlander has fallen off a bit. Although he had a strong season in 2012, 2013 and 2014 were a different story. In 2013 and 2014 Verlander has a combined record of 28-24 along with posting a horrific 4.54 ERA in 2014.

Verlander’s Future:

Verlander has been left scrambling trying to figure out what has made him fall away from his old self. He’s tried many times changing his mechanics and it hasn’t seemed to have helped much. Verlander hasn’t been at 100% health either, spending some time on the disabled list in 2015 for the first time in his career. Its hard to see such a dominant pitcher struggle like he has the last few years. Many suggest that he be used in the bullpen, but Verlander is a starter and he can overcome his problems. If he can, he will continue to be a huge part of the Tigers as a starting pitcher. Lets hope he can figure it all out because his success is vital to the whole team’s success.
