Player to Watch Dylan Larkin – The Captain looks to snag a win against the Defending Stanley Cup Champions

The Detroit Red Wings are hitting the road for a trip out west for three games starting this afternoon, with a notable 3:00 p.m. puck drop against the Colorado Avalanche. This is the Wings' first matchup against Colorado this season. Last season the Wings went 0-2-0 against the Champions, being outscored 12-5.

Tonight’s Red Wings player to watch: Dylan Larkin

Larkin has been the backbone of this Red Wings team since he has come into the league, and he has indeed become a leader, especially becoming the Wings’ captain. He has appeared in 544 games in his eight-year career, all for the Red Wings. Last season Larkin appeared in 71 games for the Wings, scoring 31 goals and 38 assists for 69 points which is the most goals and points on the team.

Larkin has been making big-time plays as of late, scoring one goal and four assists for five points over the last three games. This season he has scored 14 goals and 24 assists for 38 points; he leads the team in all three categories.

This season he has played every game on the first line, and for tonight’s game, he is slated to be playing alongside Robby Fabbri and Lucas Raymond.

Larkin plays on the first power-play unit alongside Raymond, Tyler Bertuzzi, Dominik Kubalik, and Moritz Seider.

  • During the season, Larkin has 12 power-play points on six goals and six assists.
  • Larkin also has one of only two shorthanded goals scored by the Wings this season.

Larkin Against Colorado could be a difference-maker in the Red Wings’ Upcoming Game.

In his career against the Avalanche, Larkin has played in 12 games scoring two goals and eight assists for 10 points.

  • Last season in the two games against Colorado, Larkin tallied two assists in two games.

The Red Wings will need their captain to be a playmaker and find guys to get the puck, to generate offensive chances like he has for most of his career. If he makes plays as he has, the Red Wings could be looking at stealing a victory against a very good team in the Colorado Avalanche.
