The Detroit Red Wings have won two consecutive games after having fallen to New Jersey in their first game following the 2017 NHL All-Star break. With 30 games remaining on the schedule and only a few points back of a playoff spot, there isn’t much room for error. Let’s take a look at who the Red Wings will be facing this upcoming week.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 7 vs. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS – 7:30 p.m. ET
This will be the second game of the year between the Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets. Detroit will be looking to avenge their 4-1 defeat by Columbus back on December 9 at Joe Louis Arena. After a 16-game winning streak, the Blue Jackets have come down to Earth, going 4-5-1 in their last 10 games.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9 @ WASHINGTON CAPITALS – 7:00 p.m. ET
The Red Wings make their second trip to the United States capital this season for a match-up with Washington. Detroit dropped their first game against the Capitals by a 1-0 score on November 18. Alexander Ovechkin and company appear poised to (try and) go deep in the playoffs, so this match-up will be a difficult one for Detroit.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11 @ COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS – 5:00 p.m. ET
The Red Wings will meet Columbus again for the second time in a week, but for the first time this season in Columbus.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 12 @ MINNESOTA WILD – 3:00 p.m. ET
The upstart Minnesota Wild are among the best teams in the Western Conference. Newly hired coach Bruce Boudreau has the team on a tear, and newcomer Eric Staal has revitalized his career playing in the Twin Cities. Former Red Wings Teemu Pulkkinen is currently in Minnesota’s system; no word on whether or not he’ll face his former mates.
