When the Detroit Lions traded Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff and a trio of draft picks, many assumed that Goff was just a throw-in to get the trade done and that he would only be around in Detroit until they could find his replacement. But, as it stands, it sure does seem like the Lions are content with rolling with Goff for the foreseeable future, as he has been solid in 2022.
Pro Football Focus does not like Jared Goff
Through 15 games, Goff has completed 64.5% of his passes for 3,959 yards and 26 touchdowns to go along with just seven interceptions.
Not that ESPN’s QBR rating system is the end all be all when it comes to ranking quarterbacks, but, year after year, the top QBs in the league are generally at or near the top of those ratings. Goff is currently No. 6 in the NFL when it comes to QBR, ahead of Joe Burrow and Dak Prescott.
Don’t like QBR? Ok, well, how about the NFL Quarterback Ratings? When it comes to those rankings, Goff comes in at No. 7, right between Burrow and Prescott.
Then we come to the good old Pro Football Focus QB rankings.
As you can see below, Goff comes in at No. 22 on the list.
That’s right folks, there are people that get paid to rate players and they think Goff has been worse than the likes of Mitchell Trubisky (4 TDs and 5 INTs) and Kenny Pickett (5 TDs and 9 INTs) in 2022!
I’m sure the great people at Pro Football Focus put in a lot of time to come up with their rankings, but when you look up and down the rankings listed above, you have to wonder if they really understand what a good quarterback looks like.
