Proposed trade would send Ben Simmons to Pistons

Could the Detroit Pistons take on Ben Simmons and what many consider to be the worst contract in the NBA if the Brooklyn Nets throw a little bit of sweetener into the deal? With the 2023 NBA Trade Deadline just hours away, there are reports floating around that the Nets are trying to move on from Simmons. There are also reports that Simmons does not have any trade value around the league. Piston Powered of FanSided has put together a trade proposal that would potentially send Simmons to the Pistons.

Trade Proposal that would send Ben Simmons to the Pistons

Tim Galbraith of Piston Powered has proposed the following trade between the Pistons and the Nets:

Nets Get:

  • Marvin Bagley III
  • Alec Burks
  • Nerlens Noel

Pistons Get:

  • Ben Simmons
  • 2028 1st-Round Pick
Ben Simmons trade Pistons

Rationale for the Trade

Here is part of Galbraith’s rationale for the Pistons acquiring Simmons from the Nets.

“Might Simmons be the defensive lynchpin that holds it altogether? He won’t shoot much but he facilitates the ball well so he might be a net positive with this group despite his lack of shooting. Something of a shrinking violet thus far in his career, Detroit might be a better environment for him than either Brooklyn or Philadelphia. He could play backup center and would be a defensive upgrade over MBIII, and the Pistons could reap a 1st-round pick for taking on his contract, a pick far enough down the road that the Nets could be rebuilding themselves.”

Bottom Line

It is fun to think up these hypothetical trades, but in reality, I just cannot see the Pistons even kicking the tires on a potential trade that would send Simmons to the Motor City. When the deadline comes and goes, I believe the Pistons will end up being pretty quite on the trade front. Would you make this deal?
