Veteran defenseman Marc Staal, 33, is on his way to the Motor City from the New York Rangers, along with a second round draft selection in exchange for future considerations.
The 6’4, 214 lb. Staal is the younger brother of Buffalo Sabres forward Eric Staal, and the older brother of Carolina Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal. Talk about a family connection in the NHL!
Staal was selected by the New York Rangers with the 12th overall pick in the 2005 NHL Draft, and has played in 892 NHL games, all with New York. He’s also played in 107 playoff games.
He’s in the final year of a contract that carries a $5.7 million cap hit.
