Red Wings C Dylan Larkin explains why Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk used to laugh at him

It has been a rough season so far for Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings. Not only are the Red Wings the worst team in the league by a healthy margin, but Larkin has also struggled to score goals.

Though losing this season has been extremely challenging for Larkin, he is able to deal with it better now than when he was a rookie when he would allow every loss to consume him.

Larkin recently spoke about how playing with veterans like Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, and Brad Richards taught him that losing is a game was not the end of the world. In fact, Larkin said those guys would almost laugh at him when he got all worked up over a loss.

From Detroit Free Press:

“What amazed me the most about my first year playing with guys like Henrik and Pavel and Brad Richards, we would lose a game and I would get so upset and so worked up,” Larkin said. “And they would almost laugh at me, like, what are you getting so worked up for, we have another game two nights from now.

“It’s unfortunate the point we’re at right now. It does get frustrating when we’re not winning consistently and not performing to the level we want to perform, but when you have the highs and lows of an 82-game season, you can’t let it get to you. You just have to keep playing. The next night you have to show up with your best.

“Unfortunately that story doesn’t really apply itself to this year because it has been so much down, but I really have taken that from those guys, where you’re mad about it for a couple of minutes and then you’re thinking about the next game and what you have to do to prepare.”
