Another game, another shutout against the Detroit Red Wings, who officially confirmed their reservation on the outside looking in at the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the sixth straight year earlier this month.

The New York Rangers had their way with Detroit this afternoon, enjoying a 4-0 shutout at Madison Square Garden thanks to two 3rd period goals from 2020 1st overall draft pick Alexis Lafrieniere. He broke out of his slump after having previously been benched by head coach (and former Red Wings forward) Gerard Gallant for going pointless in his last eight contests.
New York also got goals from Mika Zibanejad and Frank Vatrano, while Vezina Trophy favorite Igor Shesterkin made 19 saves and wasn't tested much at all. Meanwhile, Thomas Greiss took the loss for Detroit.
And for head coach Jeff Blashill, that's not good enough.

“We didn't seem to have enough jump all game” Blashill said. “We didn't have much jump. They had good jump. We defended alright through large parts of it but we just defended so much.”

Detroit's lack of jump was evident from the get-go, as the Rangers outshot the Red Wings in the game's opening 20 minutes by a 17-3 margin. They'll head for the sunny shores of Florida for an Easter matchup against the red-hot and contending Florida Panthers tomorrow afternoon.
