While the idea of messing with a classic Original 6 jersey like the Detroit Red Wings would seem like sacrilege to many, there are other fans who are open to the idea of seeing an updated look added to the rotation.
We’ve seen a few different versions of the beloved design in the Motor City, most recently with the 2017 Centennial Classic matchup agains the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team has yet to officially introduce a third jersey as many around the NHL have done.
Graphic designer Eric Dunkel put together a mock-up of several “color rush” uniforms for NHL teams, with the Red Wings included. Check out his design:
The jersey looks reminiscent of the uniforms Detroit wore early on in their history when they were known as the Cougars.
