The Detroit Red Wings took care of business this afternoon against the Philadelphia Flyers, earning their second victory over their orange opponents for the second time in as many games and sweeping the two-game series.
Goals from Tyler Bertuzzi, Filip Zadina, Moritz Seider and Michael Rasmussen (empty net) powered the offense for Detroit, who improved to a game over the .500 mark at 22-21-6.
However, it was the play of goaltender Thomas Greiss that stood out. Making his first start in nearly five weeks, he turned aside 32 Flyers shots, including several high percentage chances. Alex Nedeljkovic had started 11 of the previous 12 while Greiss was absent in COVID-19 protocol; it’s his first victory since December 18.

“I thought Greiss played really well,” head coach Jeff Blashill said afterwards. “I know that one in the third he’d like to have back but made up for it right after with a big save on a semi 2-on-0, so I thought he played really well since coming back. He was in control of his game, he controlled rebounds, the puck stuck to him. I just thought he looked really solid.”
Of course, Greiss is a pending unrestricted free-agent, and could potentially be dangled by GM Steve Yzerman as trade bait in order to secure additional draft capital at the NHL Trade Deadline of March 21.
