Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman makes another trade, acquires D Kyle Wood from Hurricanes

Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has made a handful of smaller-scale trades so far in his first year on the job back in the Motor City, and he was back at it again on Thursday afternoon.

The Red Wings acquired defenseman Kyle Wood from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Oliwer Kaski.

So far in 14 games with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, Wood has scored three goals to go with two assists. The 6’5, 235 lb. defenseman was originally drafted 84th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. He was sent to the San Jose Sharks in June of 2018 before being swapped to the Hurricanes in August of this year.

Conversely, Kaski has scored two goals with three assists in 19 games this year with the Grand Rapids Griffins. In May of 2019, he was signed as an undrafted free agent to a one-year, entry-level contract by Detroit.
