Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard was injured during Wednesday’s 6-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and was subsequently placed on IR.

Conversely, the team acquired depth goaltender Eric Comrie from the Arizona Coyotes earlier today. Could that be a sign that Howard is going to be out long-term? Not according to head coach Jeff Blashill.

“I don’t think Jimmy is going to be out long term,” Blashill said after his team’s acquisition of Comrie. “I don’t know when he’s going to heal for sure; it’s a soft tissue thing that I don’t want to predict, but I don’t think it’s going to be long term.”

Howard is 2-11-1 with a 3.94 goals-against-average this season. His counterpart Jonathan Bernier, who started tonight’s game, has posted slightly better numbers with a 5-6-2 record and 3.32 goals-against-average.
