Red Wings’ Justin Abdelkader named NHL’s first Star of the Week

For the first time in his career, Detroit Red Wings gritty forward Justin Abdelkader was named the NHL’s first Star of the Week to open the 2015-16 season.

Abdelkader opened the season on the top line with captain Henrik Zetterberg and rookie Dylan Larkin. He notched his second career hat trick in the home opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs (W, 4-0), and added a goal and an assist the following night against the Carolina Hurricanes (W, 4-3). He’s tied for league lead in goals with 4, along with Zach Parise and the NHL’s second Star of the Week in Oscar Lindberg.

How long can Abby’s hot streak continue? Hopefully as long as possible. The Red Wings roll on tomorrow night against the conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning.
