The Detroit Red Wings are hosting their annual prospect camp at Little Caesars Arena, where the likes of recent team draftees such as Sebastian Cossa, Marco Kasper, Dylan James and Brennan Ali are hitting the ice to show team management a glimpse of their skills.
Goaltender Cossa first came to the Red Wings via the 15 overall selection in 2021 from the Edmonton Oil Kings, and is a towering figure who many analysts believe could fit the profile of a franchise goalie of the future.
And just like former Red Wings goaltender Dominik Hasek, he’s extremely competitive and loathes being scored on – even by teammates in practice.
“I’m very competitive, so I hate getting scored on, no matter where I am or where it is,” Cossa said following today’s session on the ice. Our season didn’t end too long ago and I”m here again, but it doesn’t change a thing for me with how much training I’ve done this summer, I’m here to try and prove myself and show my game.
Cossa understands the honor that comes with being a member of a historic Original 6 organization, and he intends on making the most of it.
“I mean, this rink is pretty special,” he continued. “This organization is pretty special, definitely just being here, I want to stay here.”

While it still may be a ways off for Cossa to firmly establish himself in Detroits’ crease, he plans on continuing to perfect his skills when his name eventually does get called.
“I think obviously growing in relationships with the organization and obviously getting myself better,” he said. “My game is still far off and I think just coming here and doing some small tweaks, I’ll stay here a few weeks after as well after development camp to work on my game; that’s kind of the main key.”
When asked about the mental aspect of his craft, Cossa explained that it’s the love of the game that keeps him going.
“I think it’s on and off ice, obviously I’m a big guy but I can move well and I track the puck well,” he said. “Definitely mentally, I love the game and being a goalie, it’s kind of the last end-all be-all and I like that about the position.”
