They’ve selected Wisconsin native Sam Stange with the 97th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft:
At 6’1 and 201 lbs, Stange scored 26 goals with 19 assists and 45 points in 48 games during the 2019-20 USHL season split between Sioux City and Sioux Falls, and is committed to play for the University of Wisconsin.
Wisconsin head coach (and former Red Wings assistant coach) Tony Granato had this to say about Stange:
“He’s a great example of slowing down and going through the process of sport. He played baseball and we saw the home run that clinched the state championship. As a hockey player, he had a lot of pressure on him to leave high school early and play in the USHL. Tremendous academically. Did will in high school, did well in the Elite League. His maturity really helps him right now to battle through the toughness of the USHL. Great speed. He’s going to be a fun person to add to our roster.”

Red Wings select LW Cross Hanas with 55th Overall Draft Pick in 2020
The Detroit Red Wings have made their latest Draft selection, opting for Portland Winterhawks LW Cross Hanas with the 55th overall pick:
At 6’1 and 167 lbs, Hanas hails from Highland Village, TX and is ranked the No. 58 overall prospect by Elite Prospects.
Last season with the Winterhawks, he scored 22 goals and 27 assists in 60 games with a +20 plus/minus rating.
His scouting report:
“He’s such a gifted, creative puck-handler. He doesn’t instinctually look pass, but finds the trailer, cross-slot opportunities, and players behind the net. Hanas keeps his feet moving off the puck and isn’t shy about going to battle on offensive zone puck retrievals. He also uses a dangerous lane-altering spin-pass that should have success at higher levels.”
Welcome to the Motor City, Cross!
