The Detroit Red Wings have made a roster move, sending forward Givani Smith back to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins in anticipation for the return of forward Luke Glendening.
He'd been absent from the lineup after injuring his hand blocking a shot against the Ottawa Senators in late October. The team expects him to be ready to play Saturday night against the San Jose Sharks.
“We'll know after practice here. Sure looks like it,” head coach Jeff Blashill said of Glendening playing. “I expect him to play but we gotta get final clearance from the doctor.”
Smith played just under 14 minutes total in his two appearances with the team against the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings, and did drop the gloves against the Ducks.
