They've inked right handed defenseman Troy Stecher, formerly of the Vancouver Canucks, to a two-year contract worth $3.4 million:

A native of Richmond, British Columbus, Stecher was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Canucks in 2016 out of the University of North Dakota. In 286 career games in the NHL, Stecher has amassed 75 career points.

He scored five goals to go with 12 assists in 69 regular season games last season.

The Detroit Red Wings have been busy so far in the first two days of free agency, bringing aboard the likes of Bobby Ryan, Jon Merrill and goaltender Thomas Greiss.

Here's the good news – GM Steve Yzerman didn't overpay for any of his new players.

And here's the additional good news – the Red Wings still have plenty of cap space to work with.

Though the idea of potentially bringing aboard Tampa Bay Lightning forward Tyler Johnson did not come to fruition, the idea is that Yzerman is still looking to add another forward to the roster.

Another item on his to-do list is to take care of pending restricted free-agents Anthony Mantha and Tyler Bertuzzi, both of whom have emerged as two of the top offensive talents for the team.

According to aggregate website CapFriendly, Detroit will have a little over $22 million in remaining cap space to make that a reality after their moves in free agency so far:

Red Wings fans, we're definitely fortunate to have Yzerman as GM.
