Red Wings’ Tomas Jurco confused about lack of play, requested trade earlier in season

After a promising rookie campaign in 2013-14 with the Detroit Red Wings, forward Tomas Jurco has struggled to produce. He has been a healthy scratch for most of this season, playing in only 12 games. He is the only player on the Red Wings who has failed to record a point this season.

According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, Jurco requested a trade from the Red Wings earlier this season. It is not a surprise given that Jeff Blashill has made him a healthy scratch for most of this season, but he has also failed to make an impact when in the lineup.

“I think most important for me is to maybe make some points, because I don’t think playing good is going to keep me in the lineup. When I have played before, and then Blash told me I was playing good and, the next day, I was scratched. So, I think I need some points” -Tomas Jurco, per Helene St. James

Even if the Red Wings were to trade Jurco, they would not receive much for him. He has not recorded a single point and has a plus-minus rating of -5. If he is traded, it would likely be part of a package deal with another player.
