The Detroit Red Wings wanted a better effort after they were soundly defeated by the Vancouver Canucks by a 5-1 final score on Tuesday night, and especially after alternate captain Dylan Larkin called his teammates out.

The Flames burned the Red Wings, who dropped their second consecutive 5-1 contest and their third in a row. Andrew Mangiapane, Elias Lindholm, Mark Giordano, Sam Bennett, and Derek Ryan all scored for the Flames, who improved to 4-3-1 on the year. Detroit dropped to 3-4-0.
Darren Helm scored Detroit’s only goal, tallying his third of the season by finishing off Anthony Mantha’s breakaway chance on goaltender David Rittich, who didn’t fully stop the puck. Goaltender Jimmy Howard made 31 saves, while Rittich only needed to stop 27.
Helm would be later ejected from the game after slashing Lindholm, from whom he had just caught an elbow.
The Red Wings conclude their west-coast trip with a stop in Northern Alberta on Friday night to play Ken Holland’s surging Edmonton Oilers.
