Red Wings waive Frk, Jensen, and three others

The Detroit Red Wings made a round of roster moves today, waiving forwards Mitch Callahan, Martin Frk, and Eric Tangradi, and defensemen Nick Jensen and Brian Lashoff.

Martin Frk is perhaps the candidate to be most likely claimed by another team. He’s coming off a solid training camp and pre-season for Detroit, but their overabundance at the forward position rendered him one of the odd-men out. His waiver-exempt status (along with Nick Jensen’s) expired last season.

Waiving Jensen means that the Red Wings will possibly be starting the season with eight defensemen on the roster, including Ryan Sproul. This is due to Niklas Kronwall’s status for opening night on October 13 is doubtful.

Tangradi, Lashoff, and Callahan have all been previously waived by Detroit, and played in Grand Rapids last season. They all have until Sunday at noon to clear waivers, and can then be assigned to Grand Rapids.
