REPORT: 3 ‘Big-name’ Detroit Tigers are on the trade block

The Detroit Tigers are currently 25-39, which comes as no surprise whatsoever as the team is square in the middle of a rebuild.

That being said, the question is, which current Tigers will no longer be on the team when the Major League Baseball trade deadline passes on July 31?

Well, according to a report from Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com, sources of his have indicated that the Tigers are open to trading a few big-name veterans, including Matthew Boyd, Nicholas Castellanos, and Shane Greene.

From MLB.com:

The Tigers are positioned to be one of the most intriguing sellers in baseball ahead of the July 31 Trade Deadline, and sources said this week the team is open to moving virtually any veteran on its roster.

In other words, now that the Draft is over, the Tigers will listen to offers for starter Matthew Boyd, closer Shane Greene and right fielder Nicholas Castellanos, among others.

The Tigers are in the second full season of a rebuild, with a pitching-rich farm system likely to deliver an above-average Major League rotation to Detroit by 2021. The Tigers aren’t motivated to move contracts for financial reasons, as their payroll already is roughly 40 percent lower than on Opening Day two years ago.

Boyd, who is a lefty, has had a great season so far for the Tigers as he is 5-4 with a 3.08 ERA (1.04 WHIP) in 14 starts. What has really stood out about Boyd is that he has racked up 105 strikeouts in 84.2 innings of work (11.2 K/9).

As far as Shane Greene goes, there has not been a closer better than him this season as he has posted a 1.00 ERA to go along with a 0.81 WHIP while picking up a league-best 20 saves in 21 save opportunities.

Of the three players listed above, Castellanos has been the disappointment up to this point. In 62 games, Nicholas is batting just .263 (.315 OBP) with 7 home runs and 24 RBIs. The batting averages and OBP are his lowest since the 2015 season.

Nation, which of these three players do you think get traded before the deadline? Who should the Tigers hold on to?
