The 2022 season has concluded for the Detroit Lions, and as soon as they defeated the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football, we revealed the Lions' home/away opponents for the 2023 regular season. On Thursday morning, news broke that five NFL teams will host (be the home team) international games during the 2023 season.
Why could the Detroit Lions play in Germany in 2023?
According to Ari Meirov, the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, and New England Patriots will each host international games during the 2023 regular season.
Meirov then added that there will be two games in Germany next season, with Kansas City and New England being the NFL teams that will be going. He noted that one game will be played in Munich and one in Frankfort.
If you have already looked at the Lions' home/away opponents for the 2023 season, you may recall that of those teams listed above, the Lions only play the Kansas City Chiefs on the road.
Interestingly enough, the Lions also played the Chiefs in an international game in London back in 2015.
This would be a slight break for the Lions as they would not have to travel to Kansas to play at Arrowhead Stadium, which is a very difficult stadium to play in for the road team.
