According to a report from Justin Rogers of the Detroit News, the Detroit Lions have decided that Josh Johnson will be Matthew Stafford’s backup (barring unforeseen roster moves) heading into Week 1.
Maybe something of a roster stunner, Josh Johnson will be the Lions' backup. Tom Savage is being let go. What an amazing run for Johnson, who signed three weeks ago.

In addition, Rogers is reporting the Lions will cut Tom Savage.
