The Detroit Lionsโ coaching staff continues to undergo changes, and recently, the team pursued a key addition for their tight ends coaching role. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Lions inquired about Jacksonville Jaguarsโ tight ends coach Richard Angulo. However, the Jaguars moved quickly to secure Anguloโs services, locking him into a new multi-year deal.
Anguloโs potential departure would have been a major acquisition for the Lions, who are still retooling their coaching staff. The Lions recently lost Steve Heiden, their former tight ends coach, to the New York Jets, where Heiden will take on the role of offensive line coach.
With Heidenโs departure and Angulo staying in Jacksonville, the Lions now have several important coaching positions to fill, as noted by Erik Schlitt:
- Wide Receivers Coach
- Tight Ends Coach
- Assistant Quarterbacks Coach
- Assistant Defensive Line Coach
- Assistant Linebackers Coach
The Lions continue to explore coaching options to strengthen their staff in preparation for the 2025 season. General manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell will need to make key hires in the coming weeks to ensure the teamโs success on both sides of the ball moving forward.
