This past Sunday, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford took a huge hit against the Washington Football Team, causing him to injure the thumb on this throwing hand.
Initial X-rays came back negative but according to further testing, Stafford has a partial tear in a ligament in the thumb on his throwing hand. Tom Pelissero is reporting that the Lions will take the week to see how Stafford throws the ball before making a decision on whether or not he will play on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
That being said, we all know Matthew Stafford is one of the toughest players in the NFL and it will take more than an injured thumb to keep him out against the Panthers.
