Report: Detroit Pistons expected to pursue Raptors star Fred VanVleet

Could another member of the Toronto Raptors make his way to Detroit?

One of the most coveted free-agents to be in the NBA this offseason certainly won’t have any shortage of potential suitors. And according to a report, one of those suitors is expected to be the Detroit Pistons.

Fred VanVleet is coming off a two-year, $18 million deal with the Raptors signed in 2018, and will be in need of a new deal. That’s where the Pistons and new GM Troy Weaver could come in.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic:

VanVleet is a shoe free agent and has multiple suitors for a new deal, sources say. And on the court, expect a strong market for the free-agent-to-be: Detroit, New York and Phoenix are expected to emerge as suitors for VanVleet outside Toronto, sources said.

This year with Toronto, VanVleet recorded career highs of 17.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.9 steals in 35.7 minutes per game.

BONUS CONTENT: Tigers’ Casey Mize draws big ratings for Fox Sports Detroit

It was a moment that Detroit Tigers fans had anticipated since the team selected him first overall in the 2018 MLB Draft.

Pitcher Casey Mize made his much-awaited debut last night against the Chicago White Sox, taking the mound and showing the poise and rhythm of a seasoned veteran despite it being his first major league action. And while the Tigers would ultimately come up short in the contest, fans will be remembering Mize’s debut as hopefully the start of something special for a franchise in the midst of a rebuild.

So much so, that the ratings for the game’s broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit was the third highest of the season behind only the season opener against the Cincinnati Reds and the home opener against the Kansas City Royals.

Last night’s game drew a 5.03 HH rating for FSD, which means that of all televisions in the market that carry the network, more than 5% of them were tuned into the game.

It was arguably the most anticipated debut of a prospect since that of Justin Verlander back during the magical season of 2006. How many of you tuned in?
