On Wednesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard was forced to leave in the first period do to what head coach Jeff Blashill is calling a “mid-body” injury.
When speaking to the media after the Red Wings 6-0 loss to the Maple Leafs, Blashill said Howard would miss Friday's game vs. the Philadelphia Flyers and that Calvin Pickard was being called up.

Pickard, who is 27, has played in 104 career NHL games, posting a 2.93 goals against average.
