Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman has made it very clear that he believes the best way to build a team is via the NHL Draft. That being said, he has also made it clear that he will be looking to the free-agent market to add a goaltender during the offseason to replace Jimmy Howard.

According to Elliotte Friedman, he thinks Yzerman is interested in G Jacob Markstrom of the Vancouver Canucks as Howard has already been notified that he will not be back with the Red Wings for the 2020-21 season. That being said, Yzerman said earlier this week that he has not yet spoken to free agents to gauge who is interested in coming to Detroit.
In addition to Markstrom, Friedman also said he has heard the Red Wings are interested in free agent D Andy Greene of the New York Islanders. Friedman noted that Greene has a good attitude and he can see Yzerman wanted to bring him to the Wings.
