REPORT: Detroit Tigers’ announcer has stage 4 cancer

According to a report from Steve Kaminski at MLive, Detroit Tigers public address announcer Jay Allen has been diagnosed with bile duct cancer.

Allen’s medical team has told him the average life expectancy for somebody dealing with this aggressive cancer is 18 months.

The following message was posted on a Facebook page created by Allen’s family:

Jay asked me to post. I don’t even know how to put this…
Stage 4 Bile Duct Cancer (basically gallbladder) Spread to liver and lungs. it is a very aggressive cancer like pancreatic. We will be starting chemo soon. The medical team says 18 months is the average life expectancy. We know God can change all that. We are heartbroken right now. We spoke with two oncologist today so we are confident in the diagnosis. Thank you all for your support. We need to just sit with this for a bit. Love to you all
