REPORT: Detroit Tigers decide on move to replace Jordy Mercer

On Saturday, the Detroit Tigers not only lost 4-3 to the Minnesota Twins but they also lost one of their starting infielders in the process.

After picking up a hit, shortstop Jordy Mercer was forced to leave the game with a right quad strain. Following the game, the Tigers announced Mercer was being placed on the 10-day injury list.

According to reports, Mercer will be replaced on the roster by infielder Ronny Rodriguez, who is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Toledo.

In 62 games with the Tigers in 2018, Rodriguez batted .220 with five home runs and 20 RBIs.

Despite low expectations, the Detroit Tigers are off to a solid start in 2019. In fact, at the time of this piece publishing, they are 8-5 and just a half of a game out of first place in the American League Central.

Unfortunately, the chances of the Tigers playing at a .615 clip for the remainder of the season is highly unlikely as they just do not have the talent and experience needed to keep pace in a 162 game season.

That being said, when the Major League Baseball trade deadline rolls around later this season, the chances are high that the Tigers will be sellers.
