REPORT: Detroit Tigers interested in signing former All-Star pitcher

As we know, the Detroit Tigers are in a full-blown rebuilding stage and expectations for the 2018 season remain low.

Tigers GM Al Avila has made it clear that the team is interested in shedding payroll while building for the future at the same time. That likely means the team will not be signing many free agents this offseason but instead trying to trade away players like Ian Kinsler, Jose Iglesias, and Victor Martinez, to name a few.

But, that does not guarantee that the Tigers will sit out free agency, completely.

On Wednesday, MLB insider Jon Morosi reported that a source of his has indicated the Tigers have expressed interest in signing former All-Star pitcher, Chris Tillman.

Tillman, who is a 29-year-old free agent, has spent his entire 9-year career with the Baltimore Orioles. During that time, he was 73-55 with a 4.43 ERA in 198 games started.

In 2013, Tillman was 16-7 with a 3.17 ERA and was selected to the American League All-Star team. His best stretch in the Major Leagues came from 2012-2014 when he was 38-24 for the Orioles.

This past season, Tillman could not get things going as he was 1-7 with a 7.84 ERA in 19 starts (24 total games pitched).

According to Baseball Reference, he is projected to go 7-7 with a 5.25 ERA in 2018.
