With the Major League Baseball trade deadline just hours away, the big question regarding the Detroit Tigers is whether or not they will make any more deals or if they are finished.

A couple of big names have been tossed around this month are Justin Verlander and Justin Upton. Verlander has been the center of quite a few rumors but his huge contract over the next two seasons has been a hold-up. Upton, on the other hand, is able to opt out of his contract at the end of the season, something he has said he will consider.

On Monday, Bob Nightengale reported that the Tigers have made a decision regarding Verlander and Upton and it sounds like they will not be traded before the deadline.

After coming in second place in the 2016 American League Cy Young race, Verlander has taken a step back this season, though many say he still has the “stuff” to get back to his old self. So far in 2017, Verlander is 6-7 with a 4.29 ERA in 22 starts with the Tigers.

Verlander’s velocity has been outstanding, but his control has not been there as he is walking 4.2 batters per nine innings, the worst of his career. As we have seen before, JV has the ability to dominate in the second half of a season, which is why he has been involved in a plethora of trade rumors leading up to the deadline.

Upton, as mentioned earlier, has an opt-out clause which allows him to walk away from the Tigers at the end of the season. So far in 2017, he has been one of the Tigers best players as he is hitting .281 with 17 home runs and 67 RBIs.
