REPORT: Former Detroit Lions’ DE Ziggy Ansah could miss extended time due to injury

When Ziggy Ansah has been healthy, he has been a tremendous force on the defensive side of the ball.

Unfortunately, the former Detroit Lions‘ DE has rarely been healthy and following another injury-plagued 2018, the Lions decided not to make the effort re-sign him.

Despite injuries, Ansah was still considered to be one of the top defensive free agents available this offseason and on Wednesday night, news broke that he was signing a 1-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks.

But according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Ansah may not be suiting up for the Seahawks for quite a while as he is still recovering from his shoulder surgery. Schefter is reporting that the recovery time could miss the first month of the 2019 regular season, or possibly more.

For Lions' fans, this does not come as much of a surprise but we certainly wish Ansah the best in Seattle.

POLL: Who will be the Detroit Lions’ No. 2 cornerback in 2019?

Heading into the offseason, there was no question about it that the Detroit Lions had to figure out a way to solidify their No. 2 cornerback position.

That being said, many were surprised when Lions’ GM Bob Quinn decided to ignore the position in free agency (he did sign Justin Coleman who will likely play nickel) and then waited until the fifth round to draft a cornerback.

So, looking at the Lions current roster, who will be the Lions No. 2 CB to start the season? My bet is that Rashaan Melvin will get the start in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals.
