According to a report from the Columbus Dispatch, former Detroit Lions running back Howard “Hopalong” Cassady died on Friday morning at the age of 85.

Cassady, who played for the Lions from 1956-1961 and then again in 1963, was part of the 1957 NFL Championship team in Detroit.
In 74 career games with the Lions, Cassady rushed for 1,223 yards and six TDs while catching 97 passes for 1,413 yards and 16 TDs.
