ESPN’s Josina Anderson is reporting that Atlanta Falcons guard Justin Blalock is scheduled to meet with the Detroit Lions today in Allen Park. Blalock is considered by most to be the top rated guard remaining in free agency.
Revamping the offensive line has to be a priority for the Lions considering last year’s train wreck when quarterback Matthew Stafford was sacked 45 times and the running game was one of the worst in the NFL.
The Lions have already begun making changes to the offensive line as center Dominic Raiola is no longer with the team. In addition, left guard Rob Sims is yet to be resigned and there is no guarantee that will happen.
Blalock, who is 6-foot-4 and 326 pounds, is considered one of the more durable offensive lineman in the league as he has only missed three starts since 2007. The downfall is that Blalock is 31 years old and signing him to a long term contract could be considered risky, but it is a risk that is worth taking.
