Excellent news for NBA fans!
According to a report by 16 Wins A Ring, the NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver are considering adding two new expansion teams. The basketball website says the league is almost assuredly going to return to Seattle, with a few other markets in consideration for the second expansion team.
“The front running cities in talks are Seattle and Mexico City, with Louisville still very much in the picture. The former NBA city of Seattle has always been on the NBA’s radar, with Adam Silver determined to fix the error of letting the city lose its franchise.”
The report says that the expansion wouldn’t take place until athe least the 2018-2019 season. Realignment would assuredly have to take place, and according to the report, that would include moving the Memphis Grizzlies to the Eastern Conference, and placing both expansion teams in the West. With the addition of these two teams, the league would reportedly entertain the idea of eliminating the divisions, and going to two 16-team conferences.
There are reportedly multiple cities the league has in mind.
“The other cities mentioned prominently have been Louisville, Las Vegas and Vancouver, though only Louisville is considered a serious contender as it stands right now. They have a meeting with the league on Tuesday and still have a foothold in proceedings.”
Of course nothing is official until the t’s are crossed and i’s are dotted, but it is certainly fun to consider for basketball fans nationwide.
